How to Prepare for Your First Energy Healing Session (What to Expect, What to Bring, What Not to Worry About)
Nervous before your first energy healing session? Here's exactly what to expect, how to prepare, and why you can't do it wrong — from arrival to integration.
Before almost every first session, I receive some version of the same message: "I'm excited, but I'm a little nervous. What should I do to prepare? What if I do it wrong?"
So let me answer that properly, once and with love: you cannot do this wrong. Arriving — nervous, skeptical, tired, hopeful, all of it — is the whole assignment. Everything else below is just to help your body feel a little more at home on the way in.
What actually happens in a session
Every practitioner works differently, so I'll speak for my own work. A first session with me — whether it's a Sacred Energy Audit or the beginning of a longer journey — is unhurried and structured, because your nervous system relaxes when it knows someone is holding the shape of things.
We begin by grounding: settling your breath and body so you're actually here, not still in traffic or your inbox. We talk — enough for me to understand what you're carrying, never a performance. Then comes the gentle work itself: guided breath, presence, intention, energy work. You stay fully aware and fully in choice the entire time. We close slowly, and you leave with time to land before re-entering your day.
Virtual sessions follow the same arc — this work travels surprisingly well through a quiet room and a good pair of headphones.
How to prepare (the practical part)
None of this is required. All of it helps.
- Give yourself margin. If you can, avoid stacking the session between two meetings. Ten unhurried minutes on either side changes everything.
- Wear something comfortable. Ceremony doesn't care what you look like.
- Eat lightly beforehand. Not fasting, not a feast — just comfortable in your body.
- Bring water. Emotions are thirsty work.
- For virtual sessions: a quiet room, headphones, and permission to not be interrupted. A blanket nearby is a beautiful idea.
How to prepare (the inner part)
If you want to arrive with intention, ask yourself one question in the days before: "What am I tired of carrying?" You don't need a polished answer. The question itself begins the work.
And please don't spend the days before trying to be "calm enough" or "spiritual enough" for the session. Come as you are. The version of you that's exhausted and unsure is exactly the one this work is for.
What not to worry about
- "What if I cry?" Then you cry, and you'll be in the safest possible room for it. Tears here are information and release, not embarrassment.
- "What if I feel nothing?" Some first sessions are subtle — a quiet settling rather than fireworks. Subtle is still real. The body often keeps integrating for days afterward.
- "What if I don't believe in this enough?" Belief is not a requirement. Presence is. Some of my most moving sessions have been with skeptics who simply stayed open.
After the session
Go gently. Drink water, keep the evening soft if you can, and notice — without grading yourself — what feels different over the next few days. Sleep, breath, patience, the size of old triggers. Integration is quiet and it counts.
Ready when you are
If you're still deciding, the 2-minute Energetic Pattern Quiz is a gentle way to see what you're carrying before you commit to anything. When you're ready, book your session — virtual, or in person in Boston.
Either way: you can't be late to your own path. It waits.
Energy healing is complementary spiritual support and never replaces medical or mental-health care.
